The acronym stands for Friday Afternoon Astrophysics And Random Talk Series.
FAAARTS was inspired by the legendary WOPAT series of student talks at the University of Chicago Astronomy and Astrophysics Department.
The current organizers of FAAARTS are Janina von Groote and Philipp Edelmann.
At the moment the talks are held in irregular intervals at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching, Germany.

#6 Philipp Edelmann: Esperanto
Esperanto is the most widely spoken constructed international auxiliary language. Its name derives from Doktoro Esperanto, the pseudonym under which L. L. Zamenhof published the first book detailing Esperanto, the Unua Libro, in 1887.
What a great talk. Ivo stunned us all by spotting a grammar mistake, in Esperanto, on one of the slides (which I am sure was made on purpose), but even mere mortals like me basically felt like we just learned a whole language in an hour. Well done, Philipp!
